Trowers Tightheads Triumphant at BIG Chiefs Quiz

A full-house on the final music round proved key for the Trowers Tightheads as they claimed victory at the latest Big Chiefs Quiz 2016.

Up until round eight, it appeared as though the Exeter College Knowledge Limited would take the honours at Sandy Park, home to the Exeter Chiefs.

However, an exceptional 24 points saw the Trowers Tightheads draw level, forcing a tie-breaker question in which they eventually pipped their rivals.

The two were part of 29 teams who lined-up for the annual event, which was once again spearheaded by Chiefs’ scrum-half Haydn Thomas in his role as quiz-master for the night.

Known for his on-the-bus quizzes for the Exeter players on away trips, Thomas tested the hearts and minds of almost 200 people in the Estuary Suite over eight testing rounds.

Helping to add to what was another hugely successful evening was a special Question & Answer session involving Thomas and fellow Chiefs Kai Horstmann and Gareth Steenson, who gave an insight not only into playing life with the Devon club, but also some of their own hobbies away from the rigours of playing in the Aviva Premiership and European Champions Cup.

Sandy Park Conference and Events Sales Manager, Bev Gratton, hailed what was a hugely successful evening. She said: “Once again the Big Chiefs Quiz has proved hugely popular, especially with almost double the teams compared to last year.

“Haydn, we know, always puts together a quiz that is not only fun, but also tests the minds of all those competing. The fact we were also able to have an insight with three of the players as well, merely added to what was a great night of entertainment.”
