Weir Wows Foundation Dinner Crowd

Exeter Foundation Sportsman's Dinner - Thursday 20th March 2014

The coffers of the Exeter Foundation have again been boosted by almost £2,000 following the success of the charity’s latest Sportsman’s Dinner held at Sandy Park last week.

Star attraction for the night was former Scotland and British Lions star Doddie Weir, who entertained the audience of nearly 200 people with a number of anecdotes from his playing days, as well as further amusing stories about his life away from the game.

Weir was also not afraid to have the odd joke or two at the expense of some of the audience members, including his former Borders team-mate Tony Walker, who is now part of the management team on the playing side.

Helping to add some extra laughter to the night was stand-up comedian Lea Roberts, who proved a real hit during a 40-minute routine that had the assembled masses in fits of laughter.

Set up in 2010 by a group of Exeter businessmen, including Exeter Chiefs director Tony Rowe OBE, Keiron Northcott and Alan Quantick, the Foundation – which has helped to raise over £200,000 since it’s inception – is the club’s official charity and helps raise vital funds for a number of organisations and charities within the City of Exeter and across Devon.
